Microsoft Word is a word processing program that is commonly used to create professional-looking documents (reports, resumes, letters, memos, etc.). This second installment of Drive's Microsoft Word series is designed to help learners gain a better understanding of numerous basic functional and operational aspects of Word 2010. These include enhanced features like text editing tools, character and paragraph formatting options, design capabilities, and more.

Each lesson is constructed to assist learners with a range of word processing experience and to help them explore and become familiar with many of Word 2010's capabilities through visual references and hands-on exercises. Additionally, Word users will learn how to utilize available tools to effectively and efficiently create unique and professional projects.

Note: The content material for this section of the course was developed by a trainer based in Australia. Consequently, there are instances throughout the lessons where spelling differences can be identified.

Course Goals/Objectives

Unit 2 Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn different methods of navigating through a text document
  • Introduce text editing, inserting and deleting text, and methods for selecting portions of a text
  • Discuss numerous text tools that are available to assist users when working with documents
  • Explore various forms of character and paragraph formatting, as well as different methods for changing the appearance of text in a document
  • Learn how to create a variety of lists using tab spaces, columns, etc.
  • Discover how to create and arrange information in a table, as well as how to modify table appearance

Some of the exercises utilize external documents that serve as templates and practice worksheets.
